Description
Summary:The Cistercian's charter enjoined them to seek out remote places, where they cleared, drained, reclaimed, and farmed with great success. Wales was an obvious opportunity, and Williams has spent many years investigating their extensive settlements and influence there from 1131 until the 16th-century disestablishment of monasteries. All the order's known possessions in Wales are located on grid maps, described with detailed inventories, and illustrated by photograph, paintings and drawings, and plans.
