Wales was an obvious opportunity, and Williams has spent many years investigating their extensive settlements and influence there from 1131 until the 16th-century disestablishment of monasteries. All the order's known possessions in Wales are located on grid maps, described with detailed inventories, and illustrated by photograph, paintings and drawings, and plans.
