This volume contains selected papers, plus summaries of regional discussions, from a 1987 international conference on faith and science held in Cyprus, organized by the former Lutheran Church of America and the Lutheran World Federation. A Swedish astrophysicist summarizes the current scientific worldview--which few in the church represent--and so provides a new situation for world mission. Others present aspects of challenges of science to theology and the church and of the church to science and technology. The task of the church, the influence of high-tech, the role of humans as cocreators in genetics, and a future agenda are surveyed. One paper is on Asian world religions and postmodern science, but the discussion generally is in the context of the West and the World Council of Churches' concern with peace, justice, and the integrity of creation. The need is urgent for educating clergy in the current scientific worldview and for serious dialogue between scientists and church leaders. The volume contains six excellent Bible studies. A very readable collection, highly recommended for general holdings and undergraduate libraries. -R. J. Tollefson, Buena Vista College
