Gibbons, Hisrich (both, Thunderbird School of Global Management), and DaSilva (School of Business Administration, Fribourg, Switzerland) have contributed an important textbook to the burgeoning area of the study of global entrepreneurship. Providing readers with the fundamental knowledge to finance, start, grow, and value new ventures, the book covers the topic of entrepreneurship from the basics (e.g., understanding financial documents) to more complicated financial projections. The latter, important in soliciting financing for new ventures, is covered in very useful detail, including good coverage of the associated data, mathematical techniques, practical problems, and untrended projections. Using real-world examples and their professional experiences to bring concepts to life, the authors often change the names of the firms discussed, an approach that may garner less enthusiasm than undisguised cases for students who cannot look them up for updates. One undisguised case is Kickstarter, which is discussed in less than one page with content dating to 2012. The brevity of this book suggests using it as an ancillary in courses covering entrepreneurship generally. Deeper coverage is provided by Steven Rogers and Roza Makonnen in Entrepreneurial Finance: Finance and Business Strategies for the Serious Entrepreneur, 3rd ed. (2014). Summing Up: Recommended. Upper-division undergraduates and above. --Charles Wankel, St. John's University, New York
